
In the first month of 2017, the global apparel imports by the US saw a surging start when compared to January of 2016, projecting a great year ahead as far as the apparel imports are concerned.
Total apparel imports in January, value-wise, were up by 5.26 per cent to US $ 6,983.45 million versus US $ 6,634.41 million during the same period last year, whereas quantities also recorded a commendable rise of 10.68 per cent to 2,416.33 million SME versus 2,183.17 million SME in the corresponding period last year.

Though Unit Value Realisation (UVR) registered a drop and settled at US $ 2.89 in the month of January as against US $ 3.04 during the same period in 2016. This means the UVR recorded a decrease of 4.93 per cent year-on-year.
It may be noted here that this data include cotton, wool, man-made fibres, silk & veg based apparels.
