Following a strike called by the traders on the Indian side, commercial activities between Petrapole (India) and Benapole (Bangladesh) land ports remained suspended since Monday (17 January) morning.
Media reports maintained this even as according to the President of the Benapole Import-Export Association, Aminul Haque, there was no impact of the strike on passengers’ movement between the Benapole and Petrapole ports.
Reports further added following alleged harassment by the Border Security Force (BSF), which is said to be preventing transport workers from entering the port without valid identity cards, Bongaon Goods Transport Association suspended its operations, which resulted in long tailback of hundreds of goods-laden trucks.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Cargo Secretary of the Benapole C&F Staff Association Rakib Hossain underlined the Bongaon Goods Transport Association informed them about the strike and stated it would continue till issues with the BSF were sorted out.
