
As a least developed country, Bangladesh was yet to utilise US $ 18 billion-worth export opportunities to the European Union (EU) under the duty and quota-free privileges.
This is as per a study report conducted by the Research and Policy Integration for Development (RAPID) in collaboration with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Bangladesh, which added, of this amount, untapped export potential for garments is US $ 16 billion.
Meanwhile, presenting s paper at a seminar titled ‘50-year of European Union (EU)-Bangladesh Partnership: Charting Ahead on A Legacy of Success’, Chairman of the RAPID Mohammand A Razzaque reportedly said Bangladesh could not take advantage because of low productivity and lack of diversity of exportable products even as the paper co-authored by Jillur Rahman, an assistant professor of economics at Jagannath University in Dhaka, underlined yet Bangladesh can utilise only about 60 per cent of the export potential.
