A study of the USAID Feed the Future Bangladesh Trade Activity has underlined that by improving the efficiency in container handling at the inland container depots (ICDs), it will be possible to cut the handling cost by up to 50 per cent.
Titled Improving the Capacity and Efficiency of ICDs, the study said capacity development at ICDs is critical to keeping up with the growing global trade even as it added improved efficiency of ICDs can increase their yard capacity in the empty container stacking yard by up to 20 per cent.
This, the study underlined, means more trade and income for Bangladesh.
The key findings of the study was recently presented by International port operations specialist Edy Dani in capital city Dhaka, which was based on a detailed survey of all the ICDs in the port city of Chittagong.
