Non-traditional and new markets have contributed a lot in Bangladesh’s decent apparel export performance in the fiscal year 2021-22.
This was claimed by media reports, which citing figures from the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), underlined Bangladesh exported apparel items worth US $ 6.37 billion to the non-traditional markets in FY ’22, marking a year-on-year growth of 25.4 per cent from FY ’21.
Amongst the non-conventional destinations, India, China, South Korea, UAE, Malaysia Japan, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Mexico have contributed majorly; in this regard, Japan is at the pole position, where Bangladesh exported apparel items worth US $ 1.09 billion, registering a growth of 16.28 per cent from that of US $ 944 million in FY ’21.
Apart from Japan, Bangladesh, reportedly, earned US $ 583.78 million from Russia, US $ 715.41 million from India, US $ 812.24 million from Australia, US $ 275.10 million from Mexico, US $ 439.75 million from South Korea, US $ 282.41 million from UAE and US $ 222.33 million from China in FY ’22 from apparel exports.
