Like the previous years, rawhide prices this time around in Bangladesh are reportedly somewhat lower even if the price of goat hides in particular seems to have taken a beating.
Reports claimed this while adding goat hides were being sold at Taka 30 to Taka 40 each even if in some places they were reportedly being sold for as little as Taka 10.
Meanwhile, talking to the media, some rawhide traders in capital Dhaka reportedly said traders were offering prices lower than that fixed by the Government even as there had been no reports of people throwing away the hides, this time around.
This time, the Government reportedly hiked the prices of salt-applied hides to Taka 50-55 per square foot in Dhaka an increase by 6 per cent even if outside Dhaka, the prices are reportedly between Taka 45 and Taka 48 per sq.ft.
Speaking to the media, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants’ Association Tipu Sultan reportedly maintained they have a target of collecting one lakh pieces of rawhide at Posta in Dhaka this Eid-ul-Azha, the holy festival, which reportedly accounts for half of the rawhides that tanners collect throughout the year in Bangladesh.
