Ravi Sam, MD, Adwaith Textiles Coimbatore, is the new Chairman of prestigious trade body The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) for the year 2021-22.
The 62nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of SIMA was held at Coimbatore and immediately after the AGM, the new members of Committee at its first meeting unanimously elected Ravi as the Chairman.
A commerce graduate and post-graduate in Textile Technology from The University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology, Ravi Sam is the founder Trustee of Siruthuli, the movement of preservation of water bodies in Coimbatore.
He is also involved in various social welfare activities. He was the Chairman of CII Tamil Nadu and at present is the Chairman of CII SR Sub Committee on Sustainability, CSR & Affirmative Action to bring inclusiveness to the marginalised sectors of the society covering all the six Southern States.
Dr. SK Sundararaman, MD, Shiva Texyarn Limited, Coimbatore has been unanimously elected as the Deputy Chairman. He holds an MBBS Degree and Masters in Business Management from Cambridge University, UK.
Dr. Sundararaman is a well-known personality in the field of Technical Textiles in India and also in the field of Technical Education. Currently, he is the Chairman of Indian Technical Textile Association.
Durai Palanisamy, ED, Pallava Textiles Erode, has been unanimously elected as the Vice-Chairman. He holds MBA in International Business from Southern New Hampshire University, Bachelor of Technology in Textile Technology from PSG College of Technology. He is the Vice-President of CII, Erode Zone. He is also in the Committee of Administration of The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC).
Addressing a press conference, Ravi Sam said that SIMA would closely work with all the Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) especially TEXPROCIL to gain maximum advantage for the textiles and clothing industry through FTAs.
“The Government should make efforts to have ‘Yarn and Fabric Forward Rule’ rather than value addition and Rule of Origin to enable India to gain advantage,” he said.
He appealed to the Government to bring the entire MMF value chain also under 5 per cent GST.
