Underlining the economy of the country (Bangladesh) is growing, necessitating upgrading railway connectivity across the country, the President of the apex garment makers body in Bangladesh called upon the Government to speed up railway development project to boost trade.
Faruque Hassan, who leads the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) as its President, reportedly, made this call when a delegation of the garment makers’ body led by him recently called on Railways Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan at the Railway Bhaban in capital Dhaka.
At the said meeting, Faruque Hassan stressed the need for upgrading single lines to double tracks, building new railway tracks and conversion of the existing rail lines into dual gauge while also requesting the Railways Ministry to increase the number of trains between Dhaka-Chittagong route, especially freight trains, to facilitate transportation of more export-import cargoes.
