The export and import activities in Bangladesh have slowed down subsequent to some technical glitch in the server of the country’s National Board of Revenue resulting in shipping agents facing difficulties in submitting the registration number and importing general manifest (IGM) against their vessels.
Media reports claimed this while adding in the backdrop of the same, the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has recently sent a letter to the Customs Commissioner underlining goods were not being unloaded or loaded onto ships that are already docked at the port jetty due to delays in submitting their respective registration numbers and IGM even if the letter reportedly mentioned eight vessels with imported goods that had entered the port jetty faced delays in unloading for several hours due to issues with the server of NBR.
It further reportedly stated, additionally, dangerous goods are to be segregated based on the information received from the server, but the port is not being able to properly separate the cargo containers from these ships at this time.
It may be mentioned here that it is mandatory to submit the registration number and IGM for every vessel to be loaded or unloaded with goods at Chittagong port even though NBR officials have reportedly claimed the problem is only temporary as the server is simply undergoing upgradation.
