The owners of the washing factories in the Keraniganj area have, reportedly, placed a set of demands to save the industry and jobs of people employed in the washing units even as the Department of Environment (DoE) has, reportedly, shut some units in Keraniganj that were operating in residential areas.
As per media reports, the leaders of the Keraniganj Washing Factory Owners Cooperative Society have requested the Government to allow washing units to operate, from where they are currently located, for the time being, before they could relocate the units to the Keraniganj Industrial Park.
They made this request to the Government so as to collect money from clients who are, reportedly not paying their overdue invoices.
In a press release issued in this direction, the organisation has placed multiple demands to save the industry and protect the jobs of around 25,000 workers even as the General Secretary of the Keraniganj Washing Factory Owners Cooperative Society, Sohail Reza, reportedly, maintained that on 10 December 2020, the DoE closed some industrial units that were operating in residential areas and in another operation carried out few days later, another 37 units were shut by the DoE.
We have already purchased land in Keraniganj Industrial Park to relocate our factories from the residential area, reportedly, maintained the President of the Keraniganj Washing Factory Owners Cooperative Society, Kazi Abu Sohail Kajal adding that it was possible to move from one place to another in a hurry and it was just a matter of time before the units were relocated once the industrial park is ready.
