The continuous fall in woven garment import of Japan has caused an overall decline in the country’s apparel import in Jan.-May ’21 period.
The third largest apparel retail market in the world imported 1,018 billion yen (US $ 9.26 billion) worth of apparels and declined by 2.13 per cent on Y-o-Y basis in Jan.-May ’21 period.
Japan plunged by 8.35 per cent in woven clothing import values in first 5-month period of 2021 to 501.47 million yen (US $ 4.56 billion). However, positive imports of knitted garments (up 4.78 per cent) that valued 517.29 million yen (US $ 4.70 billion) are still keeping hopes of apparel exporting destinations alive.
In terms of weight, Japan remained positive by 1.24 per cent to import 2.49 billion kg worth of garments in the mentioned period. Woven garment fell in weight-wise import too by 3.45 per cent on Y-o-Y basis.
Of all major shippers to Japan, China, India and Bangladesh stayed positive in their respective shipment to Japan. On the other hand, Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Sri Lanka tumbled!
