A high-level delegation from Italy is in Sri Lanka to renew bilateral ties between the two nations and explore new avenues in the latter’s apparel industry, besides others like renewable energy, the Foreign Ministry said.
This is the first high-level visit from the European country to Sri Lanka since the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit in 2006.
A four-member business delegation has accompanied Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy Senator Benedetto Della Vedova on this official visit to Sri Lanka, which commenced on Wednesday. The delegation will be in the country till May 19.
The delegation comprises representatives from the Euro Green Power Ltd, Moving Energy, U2k Worldwide and Building Energy, and is scheduled to hold meetings with ministers for foreign affairs, power, special assignments, foreign employment and international trade of Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry stated that its government expects this visit to contribute well towards its long-standing relations with the European nation and open up new avenues for an enhanced trade tie with that country.
During his visit, Vedova will visit the factory of one of Italy’s leading investments in Sri Lanka “Calzedonia” (named “Omega Line” in Sri Lanka), located in Dankotuwa. The company operates seven manufacturing units, including one in Jaffna, and provides employment for more than 17,000 people.
