Implementation of the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) Motor Vehicle Agreement — signed on 15 June 2015 at the BBIN Transport Ministers meeting in Thimpu, Bhutan, BBIN would permit the member states to ply their vehicles in each other’s territory for transportation of cargo and passengers, including third-country transport and personal vehicles — will lead to a significant decrease in the cost of doing business subsequent to enabling the adoption of a sub-regional protocol for a cost-effective, efficient and seamless multimodal transport system.
This was underlined by experts and analysts at a recent event, participating in which speakers said integrating inland waterways, roadways, the railway and coastal shipping transport systems was important in reaching their potential.
Titled ‘National Advocacy Dialogue’, the event was jointly organised by the CUTS International and Unnayan Shamannay under a project titled, ‘Enabling a Political Economy Discourse for Multi-modal Connectivity in the BBIN Sub-region’.
