Again setting a benchmark for the Indian apparel export industry, Shahi Exports has paid full wages and salary to all its workers and staff for the month of April.
The company officials have confirmed that none of the workers or employees has faced any deduction in their wages/salaries even for the month of April.
And now as the work has resumed, the company is expected to pay full wages and salary to all for May and June as well.
The company didn’t reply to Apparel Resources’ email in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention here that having more than 1 lakh workers and thousands of mid-level professionals across its 56 factories in PAN India, Shahi Exports is the number one export house of India.
Taking minimum wage of Rs. 8,000 into consideration, the company has a monthly wage bill of at least Rs. 80 crore.
One of the senior persons of the company told on the condition of anonymity, “We always think from long-term perspective. This is the time when we have to support our workers. As we have supported them in this critical phase, they will support the company too.”
He further added that while many factories are struggling to find even 30 to 40 per cent of workers now, Shahi Exports doesn’t have any issue of labour shortage.
The market sources are also strongly of the view that the company has paid 50 per cent to their workers with the remaining 50 per cent to be paid in the coming days.
Following Shahi Exports, there are few more companies who have come forward to support their workers and paid some amount of wage to their workers.
TCNS Ltd. (owner of famous W, Aurelia and Wishful brands) has also paid 50 per cent to its workers for April, while the remaining 50 per cent will be paid in the coming days.
Arvind Limited also claimed that it has paid workers their wages in full without any deductions.
