Aiming to expand the manufacturing base in ASEAN countries while finding new markets, Thai Garment Manufacturers’ Association (TGMA) is confident that orders from its main markets will push exports to achieve 2 per cent growth. The association has set its goal for 2015 at 3-5 per cent growth in garment exports to reach an estimated value of US $ 3,000 million. The TGMA’s President Thavorn Kanokvaleewong said that the export value in the first eight months of 2014, totaled at US $ 1,956 million, a one per cent increase in the same period last year. For the launch of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, the TGMA is now seeking new export markets in countries such as Japan, India, Africa, Australia, and Russia as well as extending its manufacturing base in ASEAN countries. 30-50 members of the TGMA are now starting to extend their manufacturing base into other ASEAN countries, especially Vietnam and Cambodia.
