Former US Ambassador James F Moriarty has been appointed the new Country Director by Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, recently.
A statement, issued by Alliance (a platform of 28 North American retailers and brands) in this regard, underlined that Moriarty, who held the position of Executive Director of the Alliance prior to his appointment as the Country Director, will lead strategic oversight and outreach activities, with key stakeholders in Bangladesh’s Government, garment industry, and non-governmental and non-profit organisations.

Moriarty would replace Rabin Mesbah, who earlier held the position of Country Director, but is now assigned the task of leading the building and fire safety division of ELEVATE, the management firm responsible for designing, managing and executing all Alliance remediation and training efforts in Bangladesh.
“As our operations team continues to work to empower factory workers and owners, we saw an opportunity to increase our engagement with key stakeholders and focus on long-term sustainability,” stated independent chair of the Alliance Ellen Tauscher.

Praising Mesbah for the good work he has done, Moriarty said, “Under Mesbah’s leadership, we have made considerable progress in the past two and a half years, and I am looking forward to having even more active engagement with key stakeholders to help us achieve our shared vision of a safer RMG industry for Bangladeshi workers.”
In his new position, Moriarty will spend more time in the country working with the Alliance’s partners to support Bangladesh’s efforts to improve garment factories after the North American retailers’ body’s tenure comes to an end in 2018.
