There are lakhs of working professionals in the Indian apparel manufacturing industry. And Avinash was one of them until he won Rs. 50 lakh (5 million) in the famous TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). Now, hundreds of his colleagues working in the factory know him well and cannot stop taking selfies with him; while seniors from Head Office and other factories of the company come to meet and greet him. Avinash, who was a Quality Controller at Orient Fashions, Gurgaon, has become the first-ever professional of Indian apparel industry who has won big in KBC. In the longer run, he wants to use the money by starting his own manufacturing unit and retail operations. KBC is an Indian television game show based on the British program ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’.
30 years old Avinash came to Delhi-NCR after his 12th and did his graduation from Delhi University through distance education as he was also working as a helper in apparel export house. So far, in his career of 12 years, he worked with many apparel export houses like Orient Craft and Fashion Merchandising Company etc. “I used to see KBC on TV. Though I don’t get time to watch TV now, but reading the newspaper daily in the morning is my old habit. And this habit helped me win big in KBC,” he told Apparel Resources. Experience of garment industry helped him in this show too as the Fastest-Finger-First question was related to measurement which is also connected to his job, so he could easily answer.
Talking about his future plans, Avinash is first planning to get his sister married, to pay some loans and later, he will start his own manufacturing unit. “I shall start with small infrastructure and would focus on retail operations too. But, it’s too early to say anything,” he added.
