
Exports from labour intensive sectors like textiles, handicrafts and leather have increased from last fiscal while handloom products have decreased. Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply in Rajya Sabha said that export of textiles products was US $ 27.2 billion in 2011-12, though it decreased in 2012-13 and remained US $ 26.4 million but in 2013-14 it increased and reached US $ 30.5 billion. Leather is continuously growing as in 2011-12 it was US $ 4.8 billion, 2012-12, US $ 4.9 billion and in 2013-14 US $ 5.7 billion. Handloom products are on reverse track as in ’11-12 it saw the export of US $ 0.6 billion, in ’12-13 it was US $ 0.5 billion and in ’13-14 it was US $ 0.2 billion. Handicraft export remained the same in ’11-12 and ’13-14.
