
The leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which is the apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, have underlined the need to take more initiatives to equip garment workers and employees with re-skilling, upskilling and knowledge to cope up with changing trends in the global apparel industry, especially in light of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) even as BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has requested the Ministry of Labour and Employment to consider ways of how the central fund could be effectively used to ensure more welfare of garment workers.
Media reports maintained this adding the BGMEA leaders led by Faruque Hassan met the Secretary, the Ministry of Labour and Employment Ehsan-E-Elahi, in which was also present BGMEA Vice-Presidents Shahidullah Azim and Miran Ali.
The BGMEA team, reportedly, discussed the overall situation of the apparel sector including workplace safety, workers’ welfare and skills development with Ehsan-E-Elahi even as they thanked the Government for providing support in carrying out skills development programmes for the RMG industry.
