Underlining the need and importance of coordinating the activities of the customs and port authorities and arranging for the same-day delivery of imported consignments, the BGMEA has demanded facilitation of customs and bond activities related to apparel sector to ensure sustainable economic growth in the country and increasing employment.
Addressing a meeting recently of BGMEA’s Standing Committee on Customs (Bond) and Customs (Sea) as a special guest, BGMEA First Vice-President Syed Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, reportedly, maintained that even if there was an increase in export orders in recent times, price of apparels has gradually been declining, while on the other hand, the complexity of customs (including various internal costs) is also increasing day by day, which he said, quite often, makes it impossible to export goods within the stipulated lead time.
The BGMEA First Vice-President thus, reportedly, emphasised on coordinating the activities of the port authorities and customs and arrange for the same-day delivery of import consignments, as per press note issued by the BGMEA in this direction.
