
A delegation of the apex garment makers’ body, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), recently met SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, who is the Chief of Army Staff General, at the Army Headquarters in capital Dhaka.
According to reports, the BGMEA delegation led by its President Faruque Hassan and comprising BGMEA Vice-President (Finance) Khandoker Rafiqul Islam, Vice-President Shahidullah Azim, Vice-President Md. Nasir Uddin and Director Abdullah Hil Rakib, apprised the Army Chief about the existing situation of the Bangladesh apparel sector and how the industry made turnaround addressing the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic even as the BGMEA President also gave an overview of how the apparel industry has been making immense contributions to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development, in terms of employment generation and foreign currency earnings.
The Chief of Army Staff, on his part, reportedly, lauded the apparel sector’s contributions to Bangladesh’s development while also praising it for effectively addressing the pandemic’s fallouts.
