Benapole Customs House, which handles the operations of Bangladesh’s largest land port, Benapole Land Port, earned over Taka. 41.48 billion in revenue collection in FY21, which is 58 per cent higher than what it fetched in terms of revenue in FY20.
This was underlined in recent media reports.
It may be mentioned here that substantial amount of import and export takes place between Bangladesh and India through Benapole, including import of raw materials for Bangladeshi industries like the readymade garment sector — very recently, Indian Railway even started direct transportation of raw material like yarn and fabric from Ludhiana to Bangladesh’s Benapole as part of which, for first time, a special parcel train full of cotton yarn was sent to Benapole from Ambala on the Indian side — even as Benapole Customs House Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman while interacting with the media told the news agency that notwithstanding the COVID-19 pandemic, Benapole Customs House is providing round the clock services to the clients, as a result of which the revenue collection in the FY21 witnessed a substantial increase.
As per reports, in the FY20, revenue collection from the Benapole Customs House was more than Taka 26.35 billion.
