
Most banks in Bangladesh have failed to meet the loan-disbursement target under the second phase of stimulus package meant for the cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs).
Media reports maintained this even if people in know of things, reportedly, claimed banks were facing issues with reference to selecting fresh clients for sanctioning loans under the package as many of these clients have, reportedly, not yet repaid their previous loans while industry insiders said new customer selection was still a major problem considering credit recovery along with ensuring the quality of assets for disbursement of loans.
“… we will ask the banks for effective measures to achieve their loan-disbursement target under the package by 30 June,” reportedly, added an official of the central bank, Bangladesh Bank speaking to the media while underlining Bangladesh Bank may seek explanation from the senior bankers about lower disbursement of loans under the package.
