The year 2022 has been a good year for Bangladesh footwear exporters in terms of exports to the USA, during which footwear shipment to the latter increased by 64.40 per cent to US $ 451.40 million compared to what was US $ 274.58 million in 2021, thanks to more and more US-based buyers shifting their sourcing from Vietnam and China.
This is as per media reports which claimed that Bangladesh’s leather footwear exports to the US in 2022 grew by 63.25 per cent to US $ 406.49 million from what was US $ 249 million in the past year even if the total US imports of footwear from the world in 2022 increased by 32.51 per cent to US $ 33.43 billion compared to that of US $ 25.23 billion in 2021, as per data from the US Department of Commerce.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, the footwear exporters reportedly expressed hopes that US would be a bigger market than the European Union in footwear for Bangladesh in the coming days owing to the orders shifting from China even as they reportedly claimed the US buyers were going for the country-of-origin diversification with nations like India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Cambodia turning out to be the beneficiaries of increased orders for footwear.
