Close on heels of the Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) writing to the Commerce Ministry seeking loan support to the tune of Taka 500-600 crore, the Government has declared Taka 400 crore in bank loans for the tanners to procure rawhides in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha season.
The country’s central bank, Bangladesh Bank, will, reportedly, disburse the same through public and private banks.
Meanwhile, as per reports, the loan cap, set by Bangladesh Bank, is Taka 183 crore less than last year even if speaking to the media, spokesman for the Bangladesh Bank Serajul Islam, reportedly, said “Prices of rawhides have been low for the last two years and hide export was also disrupted due to the pandemic,” while adding the banks will provide the loans considering the overall aspects.
