Even as the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation or BIMSTEC continues to grow in relevance towards developing a regional value chain, the need of which was felt even more strongly during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will urge BIMSTEC members to enhance collective efforts for the development of Bay of Bengal during the upcoming BIMSTEC summit to be held on 30 March.
Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, reportedly, mentioned the same during a recent press briefing even as he added the upcoming summit would also approve the charter of the organisation that highlights regional trade and connectivity.
For information, BIMSTEC comprises Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan even if the last summit took place in 2018 in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu.
