To cater to the work orders amidst the growing yarn crisis in the country, home textile and terry towel makers in Bangladesh have again demanded import of yarn at a concessional rate of duty for those exporters having no bond licence.
Media reports maintained adding the BTTLMEA or the Bangladesh Terry Towel and Linen Manufacturers and Exporters Association has again written to the Commerce Ministry, Finance Ministry and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) — the letter, signed by BTTLMEA President M. Shahadat Hossain Shohel, has requested for authorisation of the import of 6 to 20 count yarn, import of yarn at a discounted or reduced rate, imports by sea, land and rail, including other land ports — seeking permission to import yarn count 6s-20s at concessional tariffs even as the organisation had earlier sent separate letters to the NBR and the two ministries demanding import of yarn at reduced rate of tax.
According to reports, the BTTLMEA letter, reportedly, maintained that the statement made by the local textile mill owners that the price of yarn in Bangladesh is reasonable and normal compared to other countries is not logical while making mention of the comparative prices of the same count of yarn in Turkey, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, respectively.
