Garment makers in Bangladesh have called upon the Government again to allow more time to repay the salary stimulus loans even as the apex garment makers’ body has approached the country’s central bank with its request.
As per reports, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in a letter to the Bangladesh Bank recently, has called upon the Government again to extend the repayment tenure of salary stimulus loans from the existing 18 to 36 months even as it demanded re-scheduling of all term loans till December if anyone fails to repay on time.
In a separate letter, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has urged Bangladesh Bank not to classify garment makers’ bank loans till December if they fail to pay the instalments even as while talking to the media, Faruque said that for the last 1.5 years, garment makers have been running their units despite huge losses amidst the pandemic, considering workers’ livelihood and future business opportunities, while adding that the garment exporters have now secured good number of work orders and if the Government allows more repayment time, it will help them to make a turnaround, otherwise, they will be under a lot of pressure.
