The recently appointed Finance Minister of Bangladesh, Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, underscored the importance of implementing a fully automated customs process to streamline business operations and reduce associated costs and time.
Speaking as the chief guest at a seminar commemorating ‘International Customs Day 2024,’ the Minister highlighted the pivotal role of customs in trade facilitation.
He emphasised that as part of the ongoing Smart Bangladesh initiative, customs should evolve into a truly intelligent system.
Addressing the audience at the Multipurpose Hall of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) building in Agargaon, in the capital Dhaka, Mahmood Ali stressed the need for comprehensive automation to decrease the expenses associated with both imports and exports.
The seminar, organised by the NBR, was presided over by Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, the Senior Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman of the NBR.
During the event, Finance Division Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder and NBR member Masud Sadiq also shared their insights.
