Finally, the much-awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has taken place today and everybody is happy. Encouragingly, the first-time contender Rajiv Kapoor, MD of Affordable Export clocked 150 votes which was beyond anybody’s expectations.
There are near about 758 member exporters of AEPC who have the voting right and out of them 504 used their voting power, of which 104 votes went exclusively to Rajiv Kapoor. In all, 66.49% of members casted their votes. However, there was as such no fight either in Southern or Western region as there were only three candidates each from both the regions.

A little ‘word-war’ was also seen at the AEPC AGM as every stakeholder of AEPC/industry wanted to ensure that the results via first-time implemented EVS are accurate. “We have worked hard; be it for the welfare of apparel exporters; awareness about EVS or our elections; and the voting results show that the apparel industry is happy with our efforts. AEPC has proved its transparency through implementing EVS,” Virender Uppal, Chairman, AEPC told Team Apparel Resources.
During the announcement of results, Rajiv received maximum applause. “We are more than happy as 150 votes show that the apparel industry of India seriously wants change in the EC of AEPC. Now we will put more efforts in interest of small- and medium-level exporters,” informed JL Sehgal, President of Apparel House Exporters Association and the team supporting Rajiv.
Rajiv Kapoor thanked the industry for the support and assured that his struggle for the industry will continue. HKL Magu, Chairman (F&b), AEPC and MD, Jyoti Apparels said, “It is good that someone has come forward to contest in the AEPC elections, but there should be no negative communication by anyone.”
