
Moving one step forward towards developing India as a hub for world class designing, National Institute of Design (NID), Kurukshetra (Haryana) has received an approval from Commerce & Industry Ministry (Government of India) to begin academic session for the year 2016-17.
Commerce & Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given her consent for the same. Earlier, the Minister had approved setting up of four new NIDs in Hyderabad, Goa, Varanasi and Jaipur. In a statement issued by Commerce & Industry Ministry, the aim is to establish India as a hub for world class designing and NIDs shall play a crucial role by providing skills to empower the country’s human capital towards the same. NID, Vijayawada had also began its academic session last year.

Other centres of NID – Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bangalore and Vijayawada are already working in this direction and offering various courses like foundation programmes, Bachelor of Design and Master of Design. These institutes work as an autonomous body under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
