Wacoal America and Norm Thompson Outfitters, two intimate apparel manufacturers have been legitimately fined US $ 1.5 million for making false and unsubstantiated claims about their products. Norm Thompson, a catalogue retailer based in Oregon and Wacoal, a Lyndhurst based lingerie company were allegedly selling women’s underwear infused with caffeine which they claimed would reduce cellulite and zap fat. Though there’s no scientific evidence that a shapewear infused with microencapsulated caffeine, retinol, vitamin E and aloe vera, among other ingredients could reshape women’s body or eliminate cellulite as advertised. The fine that the firms are supposed to pay will be used to reimburse the customers who bought the caffeinated skivvies.
