At the next Kingpins Amsterdam show, a transparency tool that objectively assesses the environmental impact of each step in the manufacture of a pair of denim jeans will make its premiere.
The ‘Transparency Tool’ (TTT) from the Transformers Foundation uses unprocessed data from a comparison of inputs/outputs for a set of clothes to assist mills and brands in making strategic decisions regarding the goods they produce and purchase.
According to a letter from Kingpins creator Andrew Olah, the transparency tool will enable denim manufacturers to apply scientific techniques to assign a true and trustworthy figure to sustainability promises.
The letter stated, “Transformers Foundation believes TTT will forever shift the entire discourse around sustainability in the jeans industry.”
On April 12, Kingpins Amsterdam will be held, and attendees will get the chance to see the new tool in action and learn more about how it functions at a seminar.
In addition, Kingpins is introducing Material Exchange’s Livestock, an online marketplace with a variety of denim products. A buyer can go online and discover who has what stock and how much of it in real-time by going to the platform where mills can list their excess goods.
In an effort to support PVH Europe’s Most Sustainable Product (MSP) project, Kingpins and PVH cooperated last year. As a result, PVH produced a line of clothing in its Amsterdam atelier using specific MSP fabrics and washes.
