
In what is expected to give a further impetus to sustainability efforts in the Bangladesh apparel industry, the second edition of Sustainable Apparel Forum (SAF) is all set to be held on 5 November in capital Dhaka, which will witness more than 50 speakers from Bangladesh and overseas sharing expert opinions in 5 panel discussions during the forum.
This was underlined by the organisers of the event at a media briefing held on Monday (14 October).
The panel discussions will be held on issues that are critical to the country’s apparel industry in the current perspective such as transparency, water, purchasing practice and climate change, etc.
“Sustainability is not an option but a must for Bangladesh apparel industry. So, the SAF aims to add pace to the sustainability momentum and drive discussions to that end,” founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) Mostafiz Uddin said.
The BAE along with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will organise the forum.
The Monday’s press briefing was attended by Netherlands Ambassador in Bangladesh Harry Verweij and BGMEA President Dr. Rubana Huq, amongst others.
The BGMEA President emphasised sustainable labour practice along with sustainable industry environment, taking part in the media briefing while Harry Verweij maintained that Bangladesh has the potential to establish a sustainable garment sector that ensures consistent adherence to labour rights, green environment along with social progress for both men and women.
It may be mentioned here that the embassy of Netherlands in Bangladesh is the title sponsor of the forum, which will be organised in collaboration with H&M. Further, Better Work Bangladesh and C&A Foundation have also partnered with the organisers of the event.
