Researchers from Shivaji University, Kolhapur’s Chemistry department have received a UK patent for their work on the ‘Production of Potable Water From Pollutant Dyes in the Textile Industry’.
Environmentally friendly metal oxide nanocomposites were created by a team led by Dr. KM Garadkar, which included Drs. Nana Gawde, Santosh Babar, and Mahadev Suvarnakar. These nanocomposites act as catalysts in sunlight, breaking down toxic dyes and turning them into drinking water.
“Industrial effluents from factories contain non-biodegradable and chemical compounds,” stated Prof. Dr. KM Garadkar. “They are frequently dumped untreated straight into water bodies.”
“The issue of water pollution has turned into a worldwide headache,” he continued.Industrial effluent needs to be cleaned, treated, and made reusable in order to stop this.”
“In order to lessen the harm to the environment, research will also be done to create new photocatalysts that operate easily, sustainably, and in sunshine,” he added.
