NEFFA (New Fashion Factory), a Dutch biotech fashion company, has recently concluded its initial seed funding round, marking a significant step in the realm of sustainable fashion technology innovation. The company’s infrared and enzymatic technologies, coupled with their 3D manufacturing process utilising home compostable mushroom roots, are poised to bring about a substantial reduction in the environmental footprint of the fashion sector.
This milestone not only signifies a pivotal moment for NEFFA but also highlights the Dutch Industrial Biotech Seed Fund, managed by Capricorn Partners, in collaboration with contributions from the DOEN Foundation, ROM Utrecht Region, and the new partner PDS Ventures. This strategic alliance underscores a shared dedication to nurturing eco-friendly advancements in the fashion industry.
At the core of NEFFA’s strategy lie two technologies: infrared technology for precise material sorting and enzymatic technology for efficient processing and decomposition of raw materials. These innovations hold the promise of mitigating the environmental impact of fashion production by offering sustainable alternatives to manufacturing methods.
Co-founded by Aniela Hoitink and Nicoline van Enter, NEFFA has ventured into uncharted territories with MYCOTEX – a 3D manufacturing technique utilising home compostable mushroom roots and other biomaterials to craft tailored products. The collaboration with German machine producer DESMA has already yielded successful tests on a robotic production cell that integrates these novel technologies with existing manufacturing processes.
The seed funding infusion acts as a catalyst for NEFFA, facilitating the scaling of its production line to a pilot scale. This expansion is not merely about quantity but signifies a leap towards enhancing the quality and versatility of the biomaterials produced, aiming for broader applications across the fashion industry. The overarching vision is clear – to pave the way for sustainable fashion future where environmental considerations are intrinsic to design and production.
In an era where environmental concerns reverberate louder each day in the fashion landscape, NEFFA’s successful seed funding round stands not only as an achievement for the company but also as a guiding light for the industry as a whole.
