
Gap Inc., has revealed that it has attained 98 per cent sustainable cotton sourcing, according to its 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report.
This report extends a detailed overview of Gap Inc.,’s progress during the fiscal year 2023. It focuses on various initiatives intended at nurturing positive environmental and social outcomes across its brand collection, which includes Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta.
Of particular note is Gap Inc.’s unrelenting commitment to sustainable sourcing, with 98 per cent of its cotton collected from more sustainable origins. The company has also made major strides in renewable energy adoption, with 58 per cent of the electricity used in its spaces originating from renewable sources as of 2022.
In 2023, Gap Inc., and its partners took several initiatives, including the Women + Water Collaborative, intended to upgrade access to clean water and sanitation in India. They also founded the Global Water Innovation Centre for Action in collaboration with Arvind Limited, concentrating on powering innovations in water stewardship.
Additionally, Gap Inc., launched Rise, a joint endeavour aimed at promoting gender equality all over its apparel supply chain, in partnership with organisations such as BSR HERproject, Care, and Better Work.
Other prominent highlights from the report include empowering over 2.5 million professionals in the apparel industry to enhance their access to clean water and sanitation, since 2017. Also, the successful completion of Old Navy’s This Way ONward program, which has given valuable skills and opportunities to over 19,600 youth since its initiation in 2007, was featured.
