
Decathlon, a popular sporting goods retailer, has announced a significant achievement in its sustainability efforts. In the past year, the company managed to reduce its overall carbon emissions for the first time, all while experiencing growth in both sales quantity and turnover.
The company’s recent release of its Non-Financial Reporting Declaration provides detailed insights into its environmental performance. It highlights a noteworthy 1.7 per cent reduction in carbon emissions in 2022 compared to the previous year. Building on this success, Decathlon has set an ambitious target of reducing emissions by 20 per cent by 2026, using a baseline from 2021.
The report emphasises the positive impact of Decathlon’s product eco-design program, which facilitated the transition of more suppliers to renewable energy sources and helped decrease emissions from transportation. This program played a significant role in the emissions reduction achieved in the past year. Additionally, the company’s decision to slow down production due to high stock levels at the end of the year also contributed to the decrease in carbon emissions.
