In collaboration with the Apparel Skill Council, the Credo Centre of Excellence opened its doors in Kolkata to serve as the region’s first hub for fashion incubation. The Credo Centre of Excellence will endeavour to enhance working conditions in the textile and garment industries in addition to providing training.
“Today is a proud day,” Credo Fashion Training announced on Facebook. “Credo joins Centre of Excellence under [the] Apparels Made-ups Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India to launch Credo Centre of Excellence.”
The fashion and textile sectors in West Bengal are home to a multitude of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses, and the state government is eager to increase exports in order to represent this. The Credo Centre of Excellence seeks to bridge the skills gap in the industry and foster innovation and skill development through its activities.
“This is the first fashion incubation centre in India and the first PPP model centre approved by the Apparel Made Ups Home Furnishing Sector Skill (AMHSSC) Council under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship,” said Credo Foundation trustee Pinaki Roychowdhury. “The council has three more centres in Gurugram, Guwahati, and Tripura, which carry out basic tailoring training and are fully owned by the Government.”
