CottonConnect expects that the first Responsible Business for Gins Code of Conduct will bring industry best practises and standards for the cotton supply chain into alignment.
The goal of this framework is to raise standards in the critical process of ginning and assist fashion retailers in developing the most moral and open supply chains possible.
According to CottonConnect, its six-year collaboration with more than 100 gins laid the groundwork for its new code of conduct. It claims that because gins are essential players in the cotton supply chain, the Responsible Business for Gins Code of Conduct takes into account the particular difficulties they encounter.
CottonConnect says that certain gins continue to run under unfavourable working circumstances, endangering the health and safety of employees despite the sector’s advancement.
The code, according to the document, strives to address these problems and guarantee that the gin phase receives the consideration it merits in the pursuit of ethical supply chains.
A further point made by CottonConnect is that the framework is the result of coordinated efforts by numerous industry stakeholders and independent verification agencies. It strives to address important mechanical process-related challenges, such as social, environmental, and traceability concerns.
CottonConnect CEO Alison Ward said: “Our goal is to support retailers to have more transparent and ethical supply chains.”
CottonConnect’s long-standing partnerships with gins in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are said to have been instrumental in shaping the Responsible Business for Gins Code of Conduct.
