The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has issued a closure notice to the Prakhar Estates company, a textile chemical manufacturing unit in Surat. The unit has been asked to prohibit manufacturing operations.
The notice has been issued for violating the pollution norms under Section 33 (a) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974.
As per media reports, acting on a complaint, the GPCB officials of Surat Zone had carried out a surprise check at Prakhar Estate and observed that the wastewater coming out from the unit flowed onto the road.
It has been said that the flexible pipeline was found near MVR (Mechanical Vapour Recompression) effluent feed collection tank.
GPCB’s officials also found punctures in the MVR effluent collection tank and from this tank, the wastewater was found flowing on the roadside.
Jignaben Oza, Regional Officer, GPCB, Surat said that they have also written to the power supply company DGVCL to disconnect the electricity (except single phase) with immediate effect.
