American workwear business Carhartt announced that starting immediately, 35 company retail stores would accept trade-ins for Carhartt Reworked, and starting in late 2023, mail-in trade-ins will be available.
The Dearborn, Michigan-based company originally introduced Reworked in February of this year, piloting the initiative in six stores throughout the country in collaboration with Trove. According to a press statement, Carhartt will start taking mail-in trade-ins in late 2023, expanding the programme to include the entire United States.
“We are encouraged by the positive support and feedback the program has received over the first three months, and we are excited to expand it so more hardworking people can get their hands on gear that is not done working,” said Gretchen Valade, director of sustainability at Carhartt.
Since its original debut in March 2023, Carhartt has helped keep more than 40,000 goods out of landfills and prolonged the life of over 9,000 clothes. According to the clothing firm, approximately 4,000 people from all 50 states have interacted with the Carhartt Reworked programme, the first branded resale site in the workwear industry.
All items eligible for trade-in must adhere to certain standards for condition, be from a Carhartt style sold within the last ten years, and have an original MSRP of US $ 50 or more.
Outerwear, shirt jacs, bib overalls and coveralls, hoodies and sweatshirts, as well as slacks and jeans, are among the product categories. Customers can trade in their gear for a digital gift card that can be used at any Carhartt corporate store, on reworked.carhartt.com, or on the main Carhartt website. According to Carhartt, any equipment that cannot be traded in will be properly recycled or given to prevent fabric from ending up in landfills.
