Nick Weatherill has been named the new CEO of Better Cotton, the biggest cotton sustainability effort in the world. He succeeds Alan McClay, who has been in charge of the non-profit organisation for the last ten years. He was the Executive Director of the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), where he oversaw initiatives to promote significant, scalable solutions throughout the cocoa supply chain.
Nick Weatherill has a proven track record of advocating for human rights and sustainability in international supply chains. He is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and has contributed significantly as a consultant to institutions like the International Trade Centre, a joint UN-World Trade Organisation agency that promotes equitable and sustainable trade in poor nations.
Following the announcement, Nick Weatherill stated that Better Cotton is the cotton industry’s most significant sustainability reference, making its work essential to the sector both now and in the future. “I am excited to be in charge of the organisation at a time when it has a greater influence on cotton quality and the lives of millions of farmers and labourers worldwide.”
Better Cotton is making great strides in its international operations at the time of this leadership shift. The company introduced its traceability solution in 2023, which made it possible to track Physical Better Cotton back to its nation of origin. Better Cotton declared in early 2025 that it had established a certification program, guaranteeing more supply chain transparency.
