The RMG sector in Bangladesh sets a new record in 2025 by earning 36 international “Green” (LEED) certifications, the most the industry has ever achieved in a single year.
22 of these recently recognised firms have achieved the esteemed ‘LEED Platinum’ accreditation, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), reiterating Bangladesh’s position as a global leader in the production of eco-friendly clothing.
The US Green Building Council (USGBC) grants these certifications as part of the internationally renowned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, which assesses companies according to standards like worker well-being, waste reduction, water conservation and energy efficiency.
Bangladesh currently has 268 LEED-certified clothing factories, including 114 Platinum, 135 Gold, 15 Silver and 4 certified facilities, thanks to the most recent additions. This further solidifies the nation’s standing as the global centre for green manufacturing and represents a major advancement in sustainable industrial growth.
The sector’s dedication to sustainability and clean production is further evidenced by the fact that 68 of the top 100 green factories in the world are currently situated in Bangladesh.
Leaders in the industry have praised this accomplishment as a testament to the RMG sector’s long-term goal of environmentally friendly change.
Notably, this accomplishment reflects Bangladesh’s strong dedication to responsible manufacturing and sustainable growth. It establishes a standard for green industrial transformation on a worldwide scale.
The largest export-generating sector in Bangladesh, the RMG industry, has consistently made investments in green building design, energy-efficient technologies and the adoption of renewable energy, in line with the growing demand from global consumers for sustainable sourcing.
