
A recent study has revealed a concerning surge in workplace accidents in Bangladesh, with 1,432 workers succumbing to unsafe conditions in 2023.
This figure signifies a 48 per cent increase from the previous year, where 967 fatalities were reported.
Additionally, work-related injuries rose from 228 in 2022 to 502 in 2023.
The Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Foundation (OSHE) disclosed this data during a media briefing at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Friday.
The report, based on information gathered from newspaper reports and various sources, highlighted a stark contrast between the institutional and informal sectors.
In 2023, the institutional sector recorded 329 deaths and 277 injuries, while the informal sector reported a staggering 1,103 deaths and 225 injuries.
The report attributed these workplace casualties to various causes.
