According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India’s exports of kidswear declined to US $ 880.82 million during the January to October 2023 period.
A comparative analysis by Apparel Resources revealed that India had shipped US $ 1.09 billion worth of kidswear items during the same period in 2022, marking a significant 19.38 per cent year-on-year decrease in 2023.
The decline in India’s kidswear exports was observed in key markets such as the USA, UK, Germany, and France, while a slight increase was noted in the UAE.
In terms of values, India’s exports of children’s clothing were US $ 276.78 million (down 29.71 per cent) in the USA, US $ 136.28 million (down 18.76 per cent) in the UK, US $ 69.10 million (up 2.10 per cent) in the UAE, US $ 34.29 million (down 15.33 per cent) in France, and US $ 29.71 million (down 36.23 per cent) in Germany.
The dip in India’s kids clothing exports can be attributed to the global economic slowdown, particularly in the USA and the EU, where all countries are facing similar challenges.
Despite this, the positive growth observed in the UAE market sends an encouraging message to Indian exporters. The experts believe industry should focus on targeting more buyers in the GCC region to potentially boost export revenues in the future.
