
Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China has witnessed an increase of 150 per cent in its annual spinning capacity to 15 million spindles. This has been disclosed by the regional conference on economy and information technology. With more than 1,800 textile mills, the Xinjiang in northwest China produces about 60 per cent of China’s raw cotton.
The region emerged as the most popular destination among investors in the textile industry, and grabbed investments worth Yuan 65 billion last year. At least 112,300 workers have been recruited recently in the textile sector of the region, which aims to create over 100,000 new jobs in the sector through labour-intensive projects, such as garment manufacturing, this year.

Approximately Yuan 90 billion or above investment was made in the textile industry of Xinjiang in the last three years which is equivalent to total investment made in the sector from 1978 to 2013.
