Japan-based Teijin Frontier Co. Ltd., Teijin Group’s fibre-product converting company, has developed a new fabric which is highly water-repellent in nature. With a grade four rating out of five, in water repellency , the fabric maintains its property after 20 washes to grade three rating.
The enhanced elastic properties of the newly launched fabric is an added advantage. Having a stretch ability of 10 per cent, the new fabric outpaces the stretch ability level in conventional water repellent fabrics. The flexible structure of Teijin’s newly fabric allows for high stretch which was not possible in conventional fabrics due to high density of their yarn arrays.
Designed to cater to the growing demand of stretchable as well as water-repellent clothes such as trousers and outer-clothing applications, the fabric is perfect for Japanese population, facing heavy rains.
Originating from company’s existing design of water-repellent fabric, the new fabric design has a convex structure with horizontal surface tension. The surface tension is smaller than water drops, thus easily allowing water to run off the surface smoothly.
The newly launched fabric will be available in the market from the beginning of the 2019 spring/summer season. In another development, Teijin Frontier is targeting annual sales of JPY one billion (US $ 9 million) by the fiscal year ending March 2021.
Teijin is technology-driven global group with operations in high-performance fibers such as aramid, carbon fibers & composites, resin & plastic processing, polyester fibers and products converting. With presence in over in 20 countries, the company clocked sales of JPY835 billion (USD 7.6 billion) in fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.
