
R.Elango was announced as the new chairman for Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) Cotton Development and Research Association (CDRA) for the year 2018-19 at the recently held 43rd annual general meeting of the organisation. Elango was serving as the MD of Sangeeth Textiles Limited prior to the announcement.
Notably, the newly elected chairman is a Board Member in ITF (Indian Texpreneurs Federation) and Yarn Committee Member in TEXPROCIL. On the other hand R.Ravichandran, Director, Vijay Yarns & Fabrics Pvt Limited has been selected as the Deputy Chairman of SIMA for the same time-period.
It is pertinent to mention here that, SIMA CD&RA is a certified non-profit organization, which began its operations back in 1974 by the textile mills in the Southern States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Pondicherry.
The former chairman of SIMA, T Rajakumar will now lead the charge as the chairman of Textile Sector Skill Council.
The association mainly works on promoting the development of cotton farming to boost the cotton production, productivity and the quality of fibre, to make sure that textile mills get raw cotton at a pocket-friendly price bracket.
Additionally, the international cotton production for the 2017-18 time period has been anticipated at 26.87 million tonnes, recording a growth of 16 per cent as compared to the previous year’s production of 23.08 million tonnes, due to the increase in production rate in every key cotton producing country. India’s production has been estimated at 370 lakh bales, a significant surge of 7 per cent than previous year’s 345 lakh bales.
The Minimum Support Price of fair average quality kapas of medium staple and long-staple witnessed a hike of Rs. 160 per quintal as the price went to Rs.4,020/- and Rs.4,320/- per quintal respectively from the pervious season MSP of Rs.3,860/- and Rs.4,160/- per quintal respectively.
