Chennai situated India office of Mulitex Limited, a Hong Kong-based trading house primarily focusing on sourcing knitted garments, both casuals and sportswear is now starting its home furnishing business. S. Srinivasan, Country Head, India Operations, while talking to Apparel Online shared that he has got a few buyers in South America who along with knitted garments have shown keen interest to source home furnishing products from India.
The company started business with South America last year by becoming trading partner with Pepkor. Pepkor is sourcing good volumes from India. The very first order which they placed with Mulitex was of 20,000 pieces per design. The buying office is sourcing knitted garments from Ludhiana in cotton polyester blends.
For Mulitex, the biggest product category currently is men’s casuals and now the buying office is looking at getting into ladies fashion wear and kidswear. “We are now looking for some good vendors who understand the requirement of Brazilian (Latin America) market in terms of fashion.
We want good quality andvery good pricing as themarket is very price-sensitive,” avers Srinivasan. With regard to kids and baby wear, Srinivasan feels that it’s a niche market, not many companies are willing to attempt the product category as lot of care is involved pertaining to safety normsand only those vendors who have experience in the category can succeed.
Mulitex is specializing in the Australian market and islooking to penetrate the market even deeper. “Australia is the market for us though it hasbeen quite for past one year; we are now reviving it,” concludes Srinivasan.
